escape-alcatraz-logoHave you ever fashioned yourself an escape artist, a bandit, or a renegade? If so, this race is for you! The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon is one of the biggest triathlon events held each year in the Bay Area of California. This event brings together world class athletes, olympic medalists, and your everyday marathon/triathlon athletes from all around the globe. This race is by no means easy and is not for the faint of heart as you must face the trials of the San Francisco Bay and the treacherous landscape surrounding it. I know the race isn’t schedule until June 12, of next year but training must begin sometime and there’s no time like the present.

Next year’s race will feature an extremely tough course complete with a long swim, a grueling bike ride, and a strenuous run to cap it off. Athlete will begin with a 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz Island in the frigid and strong current waters all the way to the St. Francis Yacht Club. The next leg of the journey is the 18 long miles of open road with you and your bike. After completing the ride, you have to muster enough energy to run 8 miles through the Golden Gate Recreation Area. All in all youre looking at a very tough 27.5 miles of athletic ability and endurance.

Now there is time for fun and games during the event filled weekend with the Fitness Festival and Expo in town. The festival and expo will take place as Marina Green in San Francisco and will last Saturday through Sunday. You’ll be sure to find plenty of excitement at the sampling tents, and hunting for giveaways, viewing the displays set up, and taking place in other promotions. Once you’ve perused enough you can feel free to take in the relaxation of the beer garden and food vendor areas serving up some pretty delicious food.
