Scott Cathcart and the Cannabis Industry

Scott Cathcart is an investor, executive management consultant and senior advisor to startups and emerging growth companies in the consumer products, technology, and entertainment industries. Through more than 20 years as a multi-national business leader in these and other spaces, Scott has accumulated extensive experience in global business development, strategy, corporate finance, capital raising, restructuring, advertising, marketing, sales, technology development, and major new product launches. He is the founder and CEO of Cathcart Strategic Advisers, which is dedicated to helping incubate, fortify and scale promising startups.

Scott Cathcart’s passion to innovate and do things that have never been done before has parachuted him into a range of professional adventures and firms over his career. From Fortune 500 companies in New York to startups in San Francisco, Scott’s accomplishments have been driven by visionary leadership, coupled with extraordinary tenacity and drive. While working as a senior advertising executive at ad agencies such as Ogilvy & Mather, BBDO, and J. Walter Thompson, Scott ran accounts, drove marketing strategy and developed advertising for major global consumer brands including Nestle, Kimberly-Clark, Gillette, and Morgan Stanley. For Gillette, Scott led the development of the North Atlantic strategic marketing platform for the Mach3 razor, and supervised the multilingual advertising campaign and launch of the Gillette SensorExcel in the United States and Canada, as well as in 17 European markets.

In the entertainment space, Scott Cathcart designed the video game launch process across 14 marketing disciplines in North, Central, and South America for all AAA game titles for Ubisoft, one of the top global video game publishers, and was an advisor for the restructuring of the company’s internal advertising agency.

Scott has also architected and negotiated international supply-chain logistics for a food packaging tech startup backed by Dutch and Silicon Valley venture capital. Over the course of his career, he has held top-level positions as a CEO, Managing Director, Chief Strategy Officer, senior executive and/or founder at a number of other startups, including in the financial services, mobile content production, and construction technology fields.

Scott Cathcart is also deeply rooted in the cannabis industry. For nearly five years, Cathcart served as the As Chief Global Expansion Officer of Steep Hill, a science and technology firm dedicated to cannabis testing and analytics in the US and internationally. Under Scott’s leadership, Steep Hill quickly became a global leader in the space, expanding from one small cannabis test lab in Northern California to having labs in, or now contracted to be launched in 10 U.S. states, Washington D.C., and the international markets of Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland, and the U.K. 

Today, as the Co-Founder of SH Worldwide, Cathcart is leading the global evolution of integrity and standardization in cannabis testing by leveraging Steep Hill technology as a master licensee for international markets. SH Worldwide is focused on the legal international medical markets of Mexico, Canada, Israel, Jamaica, and select European Union countries. Scott is also the proud Co-Founder of Pure Jamaican, a company that focuses on financing the R&D and production of pharmaceutical-grade cannabinoids (APIs) at scale in Jamaica. Through Pure Jamaican, Scott has helped sponsor and guide the formation of two charitable foundations in Jamaica to benefit underprivileged, rural, grassroots farming communities.
